Hey – welcome to my website – My name is Matthew Cooper, I’ve been a professional script writer for hire and UK script consultant for Film and TV for over 30 years – you can find some of my broadcast credits here on the IMDb. I’ve written episodes of EastEnders. Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Family Affairs in the UK – but my first love has always been film.
My very first broadcast credit stretches right back to 1994 – with an award-winning short film which was backed by Channel 4 in the UK and starred a then very young Ewan McGregor. I’ve sold screenplays to Miramax and had scripts optioned by US majors (as well as working as a script consultant on all sorts of feature length films).
I’m also a tech geek and an early adopter (which is why this page ranks so highly for what I guess you’re searching for) – I was the first BAFTA shortlisted screenwriter in the UK to sell his services online, and without an agent and thanks to my interest in SEO and website building, that move was supremely successful – Google became my agent, and thanks to that I started to get work from all over the world – often from people who couldn’t get past a traditional literary agent to get access to a proper professional scriptwriter with tons of experience.
I realised that my skills as a scriptwriter and storyteller were often needed by people working in tech, and as a result of this I’ve built up skills working for digital first clients on all kinds of projects (everything from reality TV, adverts, training films, and I even scripted a feature length drama for internal training at blue-chip companies).
I’ve embraced digital and was an early adopter on social, I’m a YouTube partner over on my own channel where I make low budget feature length horror movies (including a feature version of H.P. Lovecraft’s ‘At The Mountains Of Madness’ the film that Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron couldn’t lick (which I managed to make entirely in back room for less £2,000!).
Being an early adopter means recently I’ve been working in Virtual Production, and with Unreal Engine, but even more recently things are starting to explode in Text for Video (I was working with Runway back in 2023 to see what it could do) the recent SORA video has sent the film and TV business in a headlong panic, but I’m not panicked. I’m very happy. Let’s move fast and break things.
So – as I write this (04/03/2024) I’m expecting that TEXT TO VIDEO AI generated content is about to explode – but when everything is possible (which it will be very soon – maybe it is when you read this) not everything will be interesting. That’s right. Let me say that again.
When EVERYTHING is possible – NOT EVERYTHING will be INTERESTING.
So, text to video might mean that anyone can make a Hollywood level movie at their PC – it DOESN’T MEAN the resulting film will be interesting. YOU WILL STILL NEED A GOOD SCRIPT.
You will still need expert storytelling. You will still need to hire ME (trust me, I’m a Script Doctor).
So, I guess that’s what this page is about – if you’ve searched for my services, you might be about to use SORA or RUNWAY to generate your feature length film or AI TV series, and you’re sure the TECH will work, but you’re not sure the YOUR STORY works, or your CHARACTERS are compelling or that YOUR DIALOGUE is actually any good.
You’ve got all the tech at your fingertips – but what if YOUR STORY SUCKS? That’s what I do. I fix scripts, I fix stories and I make sure your characters and dialogue doesn’t suck. Like I said, I’m a script doctor, and now you guys NEED me more than ever. And I’m more than happy to help with all kinds of services.
If you’ve got the cash, you could maybe hire a higher profile scriptwriter – try talking to the agents of Aaron Sorkin or Charlie Kaufman (and let me know how you get on).
The regular film and TV industry is terrified of this new tech, and (let’s be honest) looks down on people who AREN’T from a film and TV background – they don’t like Tech Bros ‘cos you guys have killed Golden Goose – that’s not me (I am a Tech Bro!). So, yeah. If you need some help with a script for an AI Generated film – I’ll help.
Services I offer:
- I will read any current script you have and give detailed feedback – page by page notes and suggestions on how to improve.
- You can hire me to write a script for an AI generated film, TV show or short – from scratch if needs be.
- I can fix, script edit, and improve just about any script (for any video project – feature films, short films, TV pilots, Games, and choose your own story style projects).
- Story lining long running stories, series or serials – helping you world build and character build
- I can specifically fix areas in projects where you feel the writing is weak – for example I can fix dialogue, plot problems – basically any area you want me to focus on.
Genres I cover:
Thriller, Sci-Fi, Comedy, Romance, Action and Horror – I will cover any genre – and I can write specifically for any country or language.
So – if you need a pro script writer for hire for an AI generated video (or content) – get in touch with me (don’t judge the email address) matcoop23@yahoo.co.uk – somebody somewhere is gonna make the first classic film using SORA or RUNWAY – it might be you, but if you need help, get in touch – because if the story and characters DON’T WORK – your film won’t.
