As a script writer for hire and script consultant I’ve written for Emmerdale, Eastenders, Family Affairs and Hollyoaks. In my time as a soap opera script writer I was BAFTA shortlisted, and Royal Television Society nominated as a script writer.
I wrote the Eastenders episode where ‘Alfie told Kat’ he loved her (the first time) I had great fun writing for the ‘Dingles’ on Emmerdale and I was part of the team that introduced the ‘McQueen Family’ to Hollyoaks.
Soap writing is fun, fast paced and extremely lucrative too. One of the best paid gigs in UK TV. And as a scriptwriter, having a soap on your CV also helps a lot. Take a look at – Jimmy McGovern, Sally Wainwright, Tony Jordon, Kay Mellor, Frank Cotrell Boyce and many others all cut their teeth on the frontlines of soap script writing.
Many years ago I taught screenwriting for the UK Film Council, I ran a 12 month intensive course in Leeds. One of the lessons I gave was about the career path of a script writer – how to get an agent, and how to get a regular gig as a script writer. I wrote lesson up as an ebook which became ‘The UK Soap Opera Script Writers Handbook’, and I briefly self published the 100+page document on Amazon Kindle where it proved ridiculously popular.
At the moment I’m offering ‘The UK Soap Opera Script Writers Handbook’ free of charge to anyone contacting me a script report or script coverage. This so far, its proving extremely popular. So if you’re looking at a career as a soap opera script writer, get in touch today.
The book offers direct advice on the business aspects of being a script writer, and gives step by step advice on how to get a scriptwriting gig on the soaps.
